The client wanted to use their land to accommodate their large family. It was important that they still had their own space and got all their key wants and needs met within the design.
They asked for two separate dwellings with plenty of glass, organic materials and light.
Another important feature was a double-height space to enjoy views of the property, giving the client the opportunity to have that inside-outside feel within their new build.
We designed an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space with large interior kitchen windows.
The clients didn’t want that typical new build feel, so the use of wood and traditional stone gave the opportunity for a classic feel within a modern layout.
The top floor had a viewing glass atrium, and outside we designed a patio exterior space.
The final design ensured there were two dwellings – one house and one bungalow – giving the family the opportunity to live alongside one another, while retaining the ability to have their own space when they needed it.
The site layout maximised the amount of natural light and the traditional and natural materials and pitch roof ticked all the clients’ boxes, but was also in keeping within the look of the area.
The use of glass open-plan layouts and external overhangs gave the client the flexible living space they had wanted.
