Project Overview:
Our client had recently purchased a mid-century modern home in a suburban neighbourhood in South Wales. The home was originally built in the 1960s and had a distinctive chalet style. However, the family found that the original home was lacking in space and modern amenities. They decided to embark on a project to extend the home and create a more functional family space that becomes a modern unique home.
Design Concept:
The design concept for the extension was to create a space that complemented the original mid-century modern design of the home. The extensions and alterations would have new pitched roofs, clean lines, and large floor-to-ceiling windows that would provide ample natural light and a connection to the outdoors.
Conclusion:
The design team worked closely with the client to create a space that met their needs while maintaining the integrity of the original home. They used materials and finishes that complemented the existing home, such as a brick exterior and wood cladding. They also added large windows that provided natural light and a connection to the outdoors, which was an important aspect of the mid-century modern design.
To create a functional space, the design team opened up the living, dining, and kitchen areas to create an open-plan layout. They used a combination of built-in cabinetry and furniture to define each space while maintaining an open feel. The new kitchen was designed with modern appliances and finishes that complemented the existing design of the home.
The end result seamlessly blended with the existing architecture and provided the family with a functional and inviting living space.
