THE GRANGE

The Grange — Single Storey New Build Dwelling

A single storey new build set within a mature, tree-lined plot, designed as a low-profile contemporary residence that sits within its landscape rather than imposing on it. The building reads as a series of horizontal planes, flat and mono-pitched roof forms extending outward over full-height glazed elevations anchored by a natural stone core at the entrance that provides weight and continuity with the ground.

The plan stretches laterally across the site, with the principal living spaces opening directly onto a generous stone-paved terrace and outdoor pool. The pool zone is conceived as an extension of the interior the threshold between inside and out dissolved through floor-level continuity and frameless glazing that folds entirely away in warmer months.

The master bedroom suite is positioned as a pavilion that projects over a natural wild lake, creating a private retreat separated from the main house by both plan and atmosphere. Waking to open water and mature planting rather than a garden view is the defining experience of the accommodation and the reason the plan is organised the way it is.

The palette is restrained throughout: natural coursed stone, dark metal cladding, black-framed structural glazing, and timber decking to the garden and lake edges. Nothing competes with the landscape.

Simple massing. Exceptional setting. A house that knows its place.
