The Paddock

Overview

The Paddock is a contemporary new-build home delivered with a strong emphasis on design quality and sustainability. Built using ICF (Insulated Concrete Formwork), the project combines clean architectural lines with a robust, high-performance fabric, creating a home that is comfortable, efficient, and built to last.

The Brief

The client wanted a modern, design-led house that prioritised long-term performance as much as aesthetics. Key requirements included:

A contemporary architectural language with clear, confident form

A sustainability-led approach that goes beyond surface-level “green” features

A fabric-first build strategy to support comfort, durability, and efficiency

A planning submission focused on strong design rationale and quality outcomes

Design Response

Our design approach focused on clarity and restraint, ensuring the massing, elevations, and internal layout worked as a cohesive whole. The architecture was developed to feel crisp and timeless, with proportions and openings carefully considered to bring in daylight while maintaining a strong external identity.

Alongside the design, we aligned early decisions with a performance mindset, so the home’s sustainability credentials were embedded into the scheme rather than added late.

Planning Outcome

Planning was secured on the basis of strong design quality and a clear sustainability narrative, enabling the project to progress into delivery with confidence.

Technical Approach: ICF and Performance

ICF construction was selected to support a high-performing building envelope. It provides a solid basis for:

Improved thermal performance and airtightness potential

Consistent insulation continuity and reduced cold-bridging risk

A robust structure with long-term durability

A quieter, more comfortable internal environment

This approach supports a home that performs day-to-day lower energy demand, stable internal temperatures, and a building fabric designed for longevity.
